Social Science Intern/ Student on Attachment
Background
The Biomedical Research and Training Institute (BRTI) is implementing a study addressing an unmet need: same day diagnosis of extrapulmonary TB (TB serositis and TB meningitis (EpiTB). A neglected element of TB diagnosis is that of extrapulmonary TB (EPTB) which comprises approximately 15% of TB caseload, and over one third of cases in HIV-endemic settings. Unfortunately, frontline same day tests such as GeneXpert and urine lam perform poorly on EPTB samples, thus limiting improvement of TB-specific morbidity and mortality.
