The Government of Zimbabwe through the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MOHCC) received funding from the World Bank for the COVID-19 Emergency Response Project (ZCERP). Cordaid-Zimbabwe is the Project Implementing Entity (PIE). The project aims to help Zimbabwe immediately respond and mitigate the risks associated with COVID-19 outbreak and strengthen the national health systems for preparedness and response. Based on the country’s Preparedness and Response Plan, the Project aims to fill critical gaps in technical areas, such as: Risk Communication and Community Engagement interventions; national laboratories; infection prevention and control; vaccine deployment and response coordination, monitoring and evaluation, identified to immediately strengthen the local capacity to respond and address the current COVID-19 potential challenges in a timely manner, while working within the country’s existing systems and providing technical assistance as needed for local entities. Emphasis will be placed on strengthening capacities at all levels. The ZCERP aims to prevent, detect, and respond to the threat posed by COVID-19 and strengthen national systems for public health preparedness.
Part of the funding is being used to support complementary strategic activities to facilitate the implementation of the COVID-19 National Vaccine Deployment Plan, focusing on climate friendly health system strengthening activities that support vaccine deployment and including installation and maintenance of solar energy in health facilities. To this end 16 health facilities were targeted for the installation of solar energy. In addition, over 200 facilities across the country also received the Solar Direct Drive Refrigerators
Duties and Responsibilities
Cordaid therefore seeks to hire a videographer to assist in documenting the Solar for Health Project and utilization of the SDD refrigeration to showcase the impact of the project’s contribution towards strengthening uninterrupted provision of alternative energy in targeted facilities and effective storage of vaccine and other hospital medication that need constant refrigeration. The documentary will cover selected facilities across Zimbabwe. The final documentary will be showcased during various health platforms as well as shared on the project website and social media pages.
